Today, the American Trade Association for Cannabis (ATACH) submitted an extensive comment to the Drug Enforcement Administration on behalf of the Coalition for Cannabis Scheduling Reform (CCSR) in support of the Biden Administration’s proposal to move cannabis down to Schedule III under the Controlled Substances Act.

In response to the public release of the Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA) proposal to move cannabis down to Schedule III, the Coalition for Cannabis Scheduling Reform issued the following statement:

“Cannabis has been misclassified as a Schedule I controlled substance – on par with heroin – for more than five decades. That’s about to change. This week’s publication of the proposed rule marks the next major step toward ending this misguided policy, which originated with President Nixon.

In response to news reports regarding rescheduling of cannabis to Schedule III by the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Coalition for Cannabis Scheduling Reform issued the following statement:

“The Coalition for Cannabis Scheduling Reform applauds the Drug Enforcement Administration’s reported proposal to move cannabis down to Schedule III. For decades, cannabis has been misclassified as a Schedule I controlled substance, on par with heroin and above fentanyl and meth. That policy, once a centerpiece of our nation’s failed drug war, is coming to an end.

Adam Goers, co-chair of the Coalition for Cannabis Scheduling Reform, issued the following statement:

“The Biden Administration just took a major step toward ending our nation’s failed war on cannabis. For decades, cannabis has been a Schedule I controlled substance, on par with heroin and above fentanyl and meth. This was completely baseless, and we now know that the FDA and Department of Health and Human Services agree…

As the Biden Administration actively reviews the classification of cannabis under the Controlled Substances Act, a diverse group of cannabis companies and organizations is partnering with scientific and legal experts to launch the Coalition for Cannabis Scheduling Reform (CCSR). The new coalition is engaging with stakeholders in the Executive Branch – including at the Food and Drug Administration, Drug Enforcement Agency, Department of Health and Human Services and Department of Justice – to provide critical information and analysis concerning the urgent need for cannabis scheduling reform.
